Free English Topic for ESL Students The concept of “The American Dream” was first formally expressed in 1931 by James Truslow Adams, when he summed it up by saying, “"life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement". This notion is backed up by the ideas formally written in the Declaration of Independence, which proclaims that “all men are created equal” and have the right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
