Deskripsi

This essay reviews the book "Enemies of the People: My Family's Journey to America" written by Kati Marton. The book tells the story of Endre and Ilona Marton, Hungarian journalists wrote for the Associated Press and United Press after WWII until 1956. They were viewed with great suspicion by the Stalinist regime that governed Hungary during this time, and were under constant surveillance. Both were arrested in 1955 and charged with spying. Due to pressure from the United States and the changing political environment, they were pardoned after a few months in prison. The family left Hungary after the failed 1956 Hungarian uprising.
