Deaths in Bangladesh during 1971 War

Assuming a national population of 70 million in 1971-72 and the Matlab Bazar base vital rates, there would have been about 3-20 million births and 1.07 million deaths in 1971-72 in the absence of the war. With increases in the death rate in 1971-72 and 1972-73, of 40 and six per cent respectively, this implies an overall excess number of deaths of nearly 500,000.
