Italian Elite Infantry Types for Avalon-Hill’s Panzerblitz/Panzer Leader Series of WW II Tactical Wargames During the period of conflict which the Italians participated in between the years of 1936-1943 the relative abilities of the typical WWII Italian Army infantry units were shown as not too terribly effective…but every cloud has its silver lining. Of the approximately 135 infantry/non-armored divisions or division equivalents fielded by the Italian army during this period, approximately 15 divisions/division equivalents were more than worth their salt; i.e.: army engineers, assault infantry, and the various elites (both army, navy, and Black Shirt) units.
