KAM 1-Breadth-Harland

The breadth component of this Knowledge Area Module compares and contrasts the ideas of six societal theorists. The theories of Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim, Alvin Toffler, Robert Bellah, George Ritzer and James Gleick are evaluated in light of how societal change effects morality and ethics, education, and technology. While there is little argument that society, as a whole, has changed over the scope of history, societal theorists disagree on how they view societal change, what causes change within societies, and then what affects that change has on the various aspects of culture. In this component, the views of the six previously mentioned theorists are reviewed.
