Liberalism vs Realism

Qualifying as a superpower is not limited to proficient military and political influence, but it must feature and rank highest on the scientific, cultural and economic pyramids. It also needs to have a presence, not only in itself but worldwide, by creating recognized original consumer brand names such as Nike, Xerox, Citigroup, Microsoft among others. A superpower is expected to play a significant role on the education front and the military arena. The United States of America qualifies in all these areas and much more. For instance, its military power is high enough to invade some medium-size countries, simultaneous and yet suffer minimal casualties, yet it spends approximately 3% of its GDP on its military department. For this reason, the United States takes charge when it comes to the genocide in Darfur or war atrocities in Zimbabwe. Statistics reveal that as at 2007, U.S.A. featured as a significance participant in world research, the nation garnered 32% expenditure on the total research; more than the total input of the 27 members of the European Union put together. U.S.A is the one remaining superpower; it wields much influence over the whole world especially with the increasing impact of globalization. The liberal and the realistic theories are both used by policy makers in global politics, although they are different in their approaches. However, the U.S.A. can affect the world better as well as maintain its status as a superpower if it continued a liberal approach as opposed to a realist based theory approach.
