Usnisa Vijaya Dharani - The Victorious Buddha-Crown Mantra

The Usnisa Vijaya Dharani (or “Victorious Buddha-Crown Mantra”) is an invocation to the Buddha chanted in the original Sanskrit (whatever the native language of the worshippers) throughout East Asia. This document represents a first systematic attempt to commend the Dharani (as distinct from the Sutra in which it appears) to English-speakers in order to facilitate mindful recitation for the benefit of all sentient beings. Three transcriptions are given in Siddham, Chinese and Roman scripts together with English translations and a brief history of the Mantra’s origins and transmission. By Phillip Medhurst.
