Yanira Serrano-Garcia Federal Lawsuit 9.9.2014

A lawsuit alleging excessive force over the fatal officer-involved shooting of 18-year-old Yanira Serrano-Garcia near Half Moon Bay. Serrano-Garcia's brother called 911 seeking medical help after his sister refused to take her medication. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia. The lawsuit alleges San Mateo Sheriff's Deputy Menh Trieu escalated the situation that ended with one shot fatally striking Serrano-Garcia in the torso after she chased the deputy with a knife.
